Scammers send fake emails purporting to be from well-known crypto exchanges and wallets, such as MetaMask.
See an example of such an email
These emails ask you to undergo KYC (document verification), threatening you with restriction of wallet/account features or other sanctions if you don’t.
Simply put, you are stated: ‘pass verification via our link or you will lose your funds’.
❌ You can’t do this of course, and the link you are offered to go through KYC will be a phishing link to steal your details, passwords and ultimately money.
? This type of scam is called Mail Phishing, which is a type of attack where attackers use stolen email address databases to send you fake emails that look like official emails.

For example, they might fake emails from ByBit or Binance, threatening account lockout to get you to hand over personal information or funds.
What to do?
- Don’t fall for tricks and don’t give out personal information.
- Always check the domains of email senders.
- In case of doubt, contact the official project support.
Remember: real projects will never demand urgent provision of data under the threat of account blocking.
